Leonhard Garms – conductor

1506_leo-19Leonhard Garms grew up in Italy. He studied conducting, piano-accompaniment and music-theory at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz/ Austria .
He attended masterclasses with Peter Eötvös, Arturo Tamayo and the Klangforum Wien.
First professional experiences during conservatory led him to Graz Opera, Styriarte festival and several other festivals and local orchestras.
2005 he began working as pianist and coach at Komische Oper Berlin, 2008 as conductor and coach at Regensburg City Opera, where he conducted numerous repertoire performances.
2010 he started free-lancing with institutions such as Ruhrtiennale Festival, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Wiener Festwochen, Korean National Opera, Opéra de Lausanne, Komische Oper Berlin amongst others.
2011/12 brought Leonhard Garms to Istanbul State Opera as conductor and assistant of the general music director.
Currently he is free lance again, both continuing to collaborate with Opera Houses and festivals as well as following his interest in contemporary music with various ensembles.
