DESCRIPTION:In der Schwebe – 100 Jahre Morton Feldman\n \n  \nOn the occasion of the 100th birthday of Morton Feldman (1926– 1987)\, this concert is dedicated to works that focus on listening itself – beyond clear forms\, categories and traditions.\nFeldman’s ‘Between Categories’ is symbolic of music that moves between sound and silence\, structure and dissolution. Francesco Filidei’s ‘Corde vuote’ and Arvo Pärt’s ‘Fratres’ also follow this search for the essential\, for the inner resonance of sound. Together\, the works create a state of suspension – sensitive\, open\, concentrated.\nIn this intergenerational exchange about the quiet possibilities of music\, members of the Schallfeld Ensemble perform together with pupils\, students and undergraduates from the Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory and participants in the supplementary subject ‘New Sounds’.

DESCRIPTION:Several tables\, packed with dishes\, glasses\, stuff and junk. Is that art or can it be thrown away? Here\, trivial things come to life and tell an ambiguous story with an absurd ending. A mini-drama that unfolds at the kitchen table. Curtain up and join in! Ist das Oper oder kann das weg? (eng. Is that Opera or can it be thrown away?) is a music theatre education project in response format. \n(c) ORF musikprotokoll\, Martin Gross \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInspired by the contemporary music theatre piece L’opera (forse) (eng. The maybe opera) by the Italian composer Francesco Filidei (with a libretto by Pierre Senges)\, several teams of students work on their own visions and versions of a ‘table and pocket opera’ in which everyday objects become musical instruments or scenic characters. Six classes from Styrian secondary schools develop their own ideas of what art is and what can be ‘left out’ based on Filidei’s anti-opera. The students learn to apply their practical skills creatively by working in groups\, with each group making an independent contribution to the overall performance. The project uses the potential of opera as a multidisciplinary art form: just as many trades come together in the theatre\, the students implement their own ideas for Filidei’s piece in an interdisciplinary way: texts\, costumes and scenography\, alternative dramaturgies and their own musical compositions for new scenes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA team of experts in music and theatre education\, together with members of Schallfeld\, is developing a workshop concept in collaboration with teachers from several Styrian secondary and vocational schools that is tailored to the respective classes and school situations and takes into account the abilities of the students and their respective specialisations (craftsmanship\, music\, visual arts). A total of three schools with two classes each will be involved. \nThe results will be part of several concerts by the Schallfeld Ensemble\, in which both the original and the new perspectives will be presented. The low-threshold encounter with contemporary art and opera will spark curiosity about cultural activities. At the same time\, contemporary music will be made more accessible. The original setup of L’opera (forse) serves as the starting point in the workshops for new instruments as well as for writing and composing one’s own scenes. Everyday objects (bottles\, cutlery\, crockery…) become a creative field of experimentation for making sound generators or scenic objects. In addition\, the question arises: Could there be other twists instead of the tragic ending in Filidei? The project promotes interdisciplinary engagement with music and theatre while also providing a creative approach to sustainability\, as everyday materials and ‘junk’ are upcycled to become components of a musical theatre production. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFilidei’s piece shows in a congenial way how the seemingly irreconcilable can come together: how poetry can arise from trash\, how kitchen Latin can be combined with profound philosophy\, and how music can be created from everyday gestures and objects. At the same time\, L’opera (forse) offers a broad framework for reflection through its multi-layered themes. The opera’s format\, in which an unlikely love story between a fish and a bird ends tragically – both end up as a banquet on Filidei’s table – makes it possible to talk about serious topics such as social exclusion and unequal friendships in a witty\, poetic and ironic way. DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, Ensemble NAMES – New Art and Music Ensemble Salzburg and Schallfeld Ensemble join forces in a special collaboration: a project for double ensemble featuring two world premieres written for the occasion. \nOn stage\, the two ensembles face one another in a symmetrical\, mirror-like configuration\, using spatial and non-spatial structures alike as points of departure for sonic\, relational\, and performative explorations. \nThe program consists of two world premieres. Filippo Perocco’s new work engages with fragments\, remnants\, and moments of precariousness. Drawing on Robert Schumann’s letters from Endenich\, the composition traces a movement toward a “zero point\,” where what remains comes as close as possible to a musical essence. The second premiere is a multimedia composition by Sara Stevanović\, exploring concepts such as similarity\, correspondence\, and the idea of an ideally balanced equilibrium on a musical level. \n TICKETS

SUMMARY:Biennale Zagreb: Mauro Lanza & Andrea Valle - Systema Naturae
DESCRIPTION:Systema Naturae is about discovery. It is a meditation on the process\, rather than the act. It depicts the ways in which we classify\, organise and most importantly give name to the minutiae of the natural world. The project draws inspiration from two traditions: phantasmagorical catalogues of animals\, plants\, and minerals\, such as the medieval bestiaries\, herbariums and lapidariums\, and Linnaeus’ taxonomy exhibited in his work Systema Naturae. \nEach composition in the cycle is structured as a catalogue: a collection of short pieces with fictitious Latin names thematises individual branches of nature or natural sciences. Through a four-part “play” – Regnum Animale (2013)\, Regnum Vegetabile (2014)\, Regnum Lapideum (2016) and Fossilia(2016/17) – Mauro Lanza and Andrea Valle created a vast\, wide-open metaphor of the world that reflects our own histories of observation and categorisation. Through an amalgam of medieval imagination and rational classification\, the cycle explores the way in which history and modernity can coexist in sound. \n/// \nComposer Mauro Lanza was born in Venice\, Italy. He is known for combining classical instruments with unconventional sources of sound such as toys\, sound machines\, and different found objects. His music is also often used in interdisciplinary projects such as dance and video-opera. \nAndrea Valle is a composer and researcher from the University of Turin\, whose work combines computer programming and analogue instruments. Starting with the experience of pain (and confrontation with hybridity\, otherness and detachment) in Panariello´s work\, the program clashes into the hyperbolic description of Gargantua’s gigantic body (Bertrand) and finally arrives at Khubeev’s paradoxical musical investigation of the body as a linguistic medium. Jahrhundert.\nDie Geschichte erzählt von einem Kind\, das allein auf einer abgeschiedenen indischen Insel aufwächst. Seine einzigen Gefährten sind wilde Tiere\, von denen eines die Rolle einer Elternfigur übernimmt und es aufzieht\, bis es eigenständig wird. Der Protagonist Hayy spricht in den ersten 50 Jahren seines Lebens nicht\, doch seine unstillbare Neugier führt ihn von einem sprachlich eingeschränkten Autodidakten zu einer systematischen Erforschung von Wissen\, die schließlich in einer umfassenden metaphysischen Perspektive mündet. Die Struktur des Romans zeichnet Hayys intellektuelle und spirituelle Entwicklung über die ersten fünf Jahrzehnte seines Lebens nach.\nIbn Tufails brillante literarische Technik\, die philosophische Tiefe seines Werkes in einen direkten und ansprechenden Stil zu kleiden\, inspirierte die Konzeption eines multimedialen Werks ohne gesprochene Worte. Stattdessen stehen Klang und Bild im Mittelpunkt. Hayys tiefe Neugier auf die natürlichen Gegebenheiten seiner Insel sowie seine intellektuellen und spirituellen Erkundungen transzendentaler Ideen bilden die Grundlage für ein immersives audiovisuelles Erlebnis mit Instrumenten und interaktiver Live-Elektronik.\nDie unkonventionelle Instrumentenbesetzung wurde so gewählt\, dass sie eine vielfältige Klangpalette bietet. Raumkonzepte spielen in der Musik eine zentrale Rolle\, um die Landschaften zu veranschaulichen\, mit denen Hayy interagiert. Die Flöte nimmt dabei eine besondere Stellung ein\, da sie von allen Instrumenten dem menschlichen Sprachklang am nächsten kommt. Das traditionelle östliche Instrument Oud vermittelt mit seiner einzigartigen Klanglichkeit die Wärme und Eleganz von Ibn Tufails Stil.

SUMMARY:Musik hilft: Charity concert for Valencia
DESCRIPTION:On 29 October last\, Valencia was hit by a DANA that flooded a large part of the so-called region of l’Horta Sud\, causing innumerable material damages and fatalities.
