His music\, which is often made by means of a high level of joy\, spans the genre between acoustic and electronic music and is often directed towards a dramatic and political core. His work has taken him to France and abroad\, where he has been involved in the creation of venues for new music\, classical music and\, for example\, for tango\, theatre\, art and electronic music. Schallfeld was founded in 2013 by alumni of Klangforum Wien. The artistic programming reflects the diversity and interests of its members\, currently musicians from 8 different countries. The ensemble attracts attention both through exciting programming with a focus on young composers and innovative concert stagings\, as well as through its work with live electronics and collective improvisations. \n\nEvery fourth Wednesday of the month\, vegetarian/vegan food is served for a voluntary donation. Carlo Elia Praderio calls his new work Dune. For him\, the gradual transitions from solo instrument to ensemble in this acoustic “dune” are metaphors for climate change: small changes with big effects. \nKatharina Klement also relates individuals and space: in Monde II\, she uses the sounds of concrete mixers filled with different materials such as sand or wood. She transfers the resulting loops into a circular spatial concept\, analogous to the model of several moons that individually circle to form an open whole\, thus creating a coherent monde (world). \nBeat Furrer’s Intorno al bianco for clarinet and string quartet is also about communication between the ensemble and the individual. Sehyung Kim sets nine instruments in relation to live electronics and the theme of plastic. \n  \nThe compositions by Sehyung Kim and Katharina Klement are commissioned by ORF musikprotokoll. The composition by Carlo Elia Praderio is a commission by Schallfeld Ensemble\, part of a series of new works that Schallfeld was able to commission thanks to the Province of Styria’s Großer Interpretationspreis 2022.

SUMMARY:Opening concert impuls festival
DESCRIPTION:A festival is by definition a time of celebration\, and there are many things we want to celebrate in the program of the Opening Concert of the 8th Edition of the impuls Festival: on the occasion of his 80th birthday\, we pay homage to Brian Ferneyhough\, and welcome Francesco Filidei and Francesca Verunelli\, who are tutoring at the impuls Academy for the first time. \nCertainly there is\, of course\, the new works: the Austrian premiere of an Ulysses Network commission to Elena Rykova and a new composition by Dmitri Kourliandksi\, created especially for Ensemble Schallfeld to be premiered at impuls 2023; and finally\, we also celebrate Schallfeld’s fifth participation in impuls during the tenth anniversary year of the ensemble. \nThe common thread of this program is the inspiration from extra-musical elements: Whether it is a historical painting (as in “La Chute d’Icare”)\, or the illusion of movement created by static images (as in “Cinemaolio”)\, a poem by Eduardo Sanguineti (in the case of “Finito Ogni Gesto”)\, or places\, lonely inner places in the case of Rykova\, or quite real and quite crowded ones in the case of Kourliandski. Through ekphrasis or synesthesia\, the music always seems to act as a metaphorical space. SUMMARY:Application Klangspuren Composers Lab 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Klangspuren Composers Lab (11.09. – 19.09.2023) is part of the Klangspuren Academy\, a successful new format initiated last year that is aimed at highly talented international and local composers pursuing a career as professional musicians. With its Composers Lab featuring annually changing instructors and musical partners\, Klangspuren Schwaz has created a place for encounter and learning for composers. For 2023\, it was able to enlist the collaboration of such excellent musical figures as the composers Chaya Czernowin and Klaus Lang\, from Israel and Austria respectively\, and the Graz-based Schallfeld Ensemble. The expertise of these instructors\, who also have pedagogical training\, will inspire the eight composers selected to participate in the workshop and give them new perspectives. For the participants\, the practical work of writing pieces specifically for the Schallfeld Ensemble will provide a reality check under excellent rehearsal conditions. \nThrough public master classes and concerts in Schwaz this “laboratory” will be deeply integrated into the festival. In this way\, the audience and other young composers will have the opportunity to closely observe the making of contemporary music and be able to follow the creation of new works\, their backgrounds and development. Participation in the Klangspuren Composers Lab will be determined by an international competition. Eight participants will be nominated in a two-stage selection process. There is no age limit for the applicants. The participants’ work will be premiered at the Klangspuren festival by the Schallfeld Ensemble on 18 September 2023. \nBy providing stipends\, Klangspuren seeks to make the projects accessible to all who are interested. In the selection process\, the professional qualifications will be taken into consideration in addition to applicants’s gender equality and diversity.
