DESCRIPTION:Mauro Lanza & Andrea Valle: Systema Naturae \nThe cycle Systema Naturae includes four pieces. Its main feature is the use of acoustic instruments together with computer controlled physical objects placed in a specific spatial organization.\nTwo references are at the base of the whole cycle. The first is the medieval\, phantasmagoric tradition of bestiaria\, herbaria and lapidaria intended as multi-faceted catalogues of miscellaneous beings (animals\, stones\, plants). A second reference is taxonomy\, the systematic description of living organisms that dates back to Linnaeus’ Systema Naturae (hence the name of the cycle) as the rationalistic ordering of nature. DESCRIPTION:Three operas\, each written and composed by teams of seven people within three days\, and premiered on the evening of the third day: From May 19 to 22\, 2022\, our audience can witness this seemingly impossible task and its implementation live. “CIVIC NEWSROOM” is the name of the contemporary opera project that artistic director Carmen C. Kruse and creative producer Leonora Scheib have brought to life with their opera start-up\, “Civic Opera Creations” (COCREATIONS).\n\n\n\n\nThey bring a total of 21 composers\, librettists\, directors\, singers\, musicians\, stage and costume designers from Germany\, Great Britain\, Iran\, Italy\, Russia\, Sweden and Austria  together for this project and its subsequent premiere in Vienna. \nThe topics for the new short operas are specified by Kruse and Scheib\, as well as their cooperation partners: For the first issue of CIVIC NEWSROOM\, the areas are diversity & participation\, the hopes for the future & “What do I wish for tomorrow?”\, ecology & sustainability are starting points for the artistic work of the three teams. The artists take up current social issues and like reporter engage with local community members. They then use the skills of modern music theater to shine a new light on current discourses. \n​The following institutions were won as cooperation partners and venues for the first CIVIC NEWSROOM: KUNST HAUS WIEN/Museum Hundertwasser\, Kulturhaus Brotfabrik and CAPE 10 – House of Social Innovation. \n​The entire process of the three operas in development can be followed live via social media from May 19 to May 22. Anyone who is interested in partticipating has the opportunity to get involved directly on May 19 from 4:30 p.m. Three days later\, the audience is invited to see the end result in the form of sight-specific\, station theater with free admission and an exchangeof thoughts and  ideas with the participating artists aftter each performance. \n​ \nAdmission to all events is free. In welchem Zustand sind wir jetzt\, was bleibt von der letzen zwei Jahren Pandemie? Alles kaputt oder alles neu? In den musikalischen Beiträgen dieses Konzertabends hören\, spüren und schauen wir hinein in Ruinen\, wir sehen leere Stühle\, Monoliten und Fragmente\, die oft an die Grenzen der Wahrnehmbarkeit rühren oder deren Zerbrechlichkeit neue Formen der Aufmerksamkeit von uns verlangt. Die zentrale Idee dieses neuen Werkes ist\, ein abstraktes\, szenisches Musikwerk hervorzubringen\, bei dem Klang\, die Gesten und Bewegungen der MusikerInnen und Licht als Hauptelemente eingesetzt werden. Die imaginären Orte werden daher – das heißt eine Reihe unterschiedlicher und kontrastierender Szenen – durch das komplexe Wechselspiel zwischen unterschiedlichen Erscheinungsformen der eingesetzten Medien\, wie z.B. July 2021\, online\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe second Conference on AI Music Creativity brings together two overlapping research forums: The Computer Simulation of Music Creativity Conference (est. 2016) and The International Workshop on Musical Metacreation (est. 2012). The objective of the conference is to bring together scholars and artists interested in the emulation and extension of musical creativity through computational means and to provide them with an interdisciplinary platform in which to present and discuss their work in scientific and artistic contexts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 2021 Conference on AI Music Creativity will be hosted by the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) of the University of Music and Performing Arts of Graz\, Austria and held online. Zu hören sind weitere Arbeiten von Séverine Ballon und ein neues Stück der Komponistin und Performerin Pia Palme. Beide Künstlerinnen setzen in ihrer Musik gern innere Welten in Szene. Aus der Position der komponierenden Musikerin – oder musizierenden Komponistin – heraus verbinden Ballon und Palme individuelle Klangräume mit der Außenwelt. So entstehen auf einzigartige Weise Interferenzen und Resonanzen des Persönlichen mit der Umgebung: ein theatrales Ökosystem wird hörbar. \nDieses Konzert schließt eine Reihe von Aufführungen ab\, die seit 2019 laufend – real oder online – im Auftrag des umfassenden künstlerischen Forschungsprojektes ‘On the Fragility of Sounds’ stattgefunden haben. Die Komponistin Pia Palme untersuchte mit der Musikologin Christina Lessiak und der Theaterwissenschafterin Irene Lehmann heutiges Musiktheater im weitesten Sinn; sie wurden dabei weltweit unterstützt von Künstler*innen und Wissenschafter*innen\, Ensembles und kulturellen Institutionen. \n  \nDas Forschungsprojekt ‘On the Fragility of Sounds’ (2019 – 2021) ist an der KUG Kunstuniversität Graz\, Zentrum für Genderforschung | FWF PEEK AR537 verankert. Gefördert vom FWF Austrian Science Fund\, von der Mariann-Stegmann Foundation und vom Land Steiermark.
