Workshop and concert with  Agata Zubel And Schallfeld Ensemble, in cooperation with IGNM Styria and KULTUM – Kulturzentrum bei der Minoriten Graz.

Workshop: 14-17 April 2024 (Graz, AUSTRIA)

Schallfeld launches a call for scores for an ensemble/chamber music workshop for composers. Applications will be accepted from now until 4 February 2024.

The workshop consists of one private lesson with Agata Zubel and two rehearsals with the Schallfeld Ensemble. The works of the selected participants will be performed in a public concert on 17 April 2024 in the Großer Minoritensaal Graz.

Application

The workshop is open to composers of all nationalities and ages. A degree or diploma is not required. There is no participation/application fee.

The following instruments will be available:

  • Flutes (in C, G, bass and piccolo)
  • Clarinets (Bb, bass, double bass)
  • Accordion (chromatic button accordion with free basses (converter switch), B system and full range in both manuals (E contra – #c5))
  • Piano (Preparations of the piano are possible, but should not harm the instrument)
  • Percussion (1 player)
  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Violoncello
  • Double bass (5 strings)
  • Electronics: Each instrument can be amplified individually. The ensemble can also provide specialised microphones such as contact microphones, piezo elements and miniature microphones. The piece can be written for live electronics or tape, although the use of click tracks without conducting is not recommended. Software or patches can be written in either Max8, Pure Data, SuperCollider, Faust or Ableton Live. Any copyrighted software other than those mentioned above, including VST plugins, must be provided by the author, i.e. purchased and made available to the ensemble. This also applies to MIDI. Keyboard used as a synthesiser or sampler. Available is also an 8 channel power amplification system and 1 subwoofer (8.1). If necessary, please deliver any pre produced sound file at a sampling rate of 48000 and a bit depth of 24 or 16 bit.

Ad hoc instrumentation/suggestions for free instrumentation and performative settings are possible.

Ensemble pieces (with conductor) are preferred, applications with chamber music pieces with 4 or more instruments are also possible. (4 is the minimum).

Several proposals may be submitted per applicant, but each invited applicant may only realise 1 work project

The application should include the following material: score, CV with contact. Optionally, up to 3 examples of previous work can be provided (recordings, scores).

The material can be submitted as an email attachment or via file transfer: schallfeldacademy@gmail.com Submission deadline is 4 February 2024 23.59h CET. All selected applicants will be notified by 20 February 2024 at the latest.

Accomodation costs

Accommodation for the selected participants (14-18 April) will be organised and covered by Schallfeld.
